Given our situation of the big black hole being very big, we can make rash decisions about our businesses, careers, relationships with our customers and how we react to the unknown.
Today's video 'Now Is the New Normal' discusses where efficiences can be made and remote working can be offered to complete some types of work, which in turn may reduce costs and improve performance within some working environments. Will companies that see massive improvements want to go back to the old way of working? We will have to wait and see, but now could be the new normal.
From those that I have spoken to, I'm getting the sense that the way that we work and interact with business is being fast tracked to what was likely to happen anyhow in the future, including:
More online business offerings
Working from home
Technology having an even great impact
Ways of communicating
Hopefully appreciating what we have got and being less consuming of our natural resources (perhaps a post for another day)
I was talking to a Sales Director last week, who is responsible for a large field based sales team, and he was telling me that his team are really struggling with working from home and not being able to get out and see their customers. He went on to tell me they sell into hospitals and doctors surgeries and the team can’t wait to get back to normal as face to face interaction is so much better.
I asked when he thought they will be back to normal. The Sales Director said “good point, I guess those environments are the last places that we can freely go into and discuss business”.
We went on to discuss that now is the new normal and his team need to adapt, or they will be left behind.
A lot of salespeople I work with justify their travel and cost by saying face to face communication is so much better. I agree, but we need alternatives and need to be good at them because our working environments have changed and will continue to do so.
So, no procrastination or head in hands reactions. It's time for clever solutions, creativity and entrepreneurial thinking. What are the new solutions to your environment?
If you don’t look after yourself and develop who is going to do it for you?
Take care
